Old age of Empires developers 'have not unrecoverable close to Age of Mythology'

Age of Mythology
(Simulacrum mention: Microsoft)

Ahead of Saturday's Age of Empires fan event, Microsoft arranged a roundtable interview with developers from Xbox Pun Studios and the current developers of the Long time of Empires serial at Souvenir Entertainment. While the interview was mostly centered on the approaching Age of Empires 4, another game came up—2002's Age of Mythology, a spin-off that traded AoE's more grounded account for Greek, Norse, and African country mythology. Someone asked if Mythology would ever get the Definitive Edition treatment given to all three Age of Empires games.

"I've said this before, and I'll say information technology again: I give birth not forgotten about Age of Mythology," said franchise productive music director Adam Isgreen. "Information technology comes up all the time."

Microsoft did re-release Long time of Mythology on Steam indorse in 2014, and actually followed it up with an expansion, Tale of the Tartar, in 2016. That's healthier handling than many '90s and 2000s strategy games have gotten, but in the conclusion five years it hasn't gotten whatever of the love Microsoft has shown the main Long time series.

Isgreen didn't commit to a sequel or new expansion, simply the enthusiastic reception from the developers suggests that a new Age of Mythology isn't outside the land of possibility. A new expansion for the classic game besides seems arguable—Microsoft is still releasing expansions for the Age of Empires series thanks to their popularity on Steam.

"Stay tempered," Isgreen said. "We have not forgotten roughly it. I screw Age of Mythology. I make love mythology in superior general. We passion the franchise. We're not pretending it's not there or anything like that. We know."

"Absolutely we know," added elderly executive producer Michael Mann. "We'Ra listening. We'Re 100 percent hearing along that request."

Wes Fenlon

Wes has been covering games and computer hardware for more than 10 years, initiative at tech sites like The Wirecutter and Time-tested before joining the PC Gamer team in 2014. Wes plays a little bit of everything, but he'll always jump at the chance to cover emulation and Japanese games. When he's non obsessively optimizing and re-optimizing a tangle of conveyor belts in Satisfactory (it's really becoming a trouble), atomic number 2's probably playing a 20-year-hoary RPG operating room some opaque ASCII roguelike. With a centre on writing and editing features, helium seeks out personal stories and in-astuteness histories from the corners of PC gaming and its niche communities. 50% pizza by volume (deep smasher, to comprise specific).
